(KLZA) -- The new school year begins Thursday, August 15th for Johnson-Brock students. Dismissal the first day will be at 1 p-m.
This year the Johnson-Brock public schools will offer preschool beginning at 8:15 a-m and dismissing at noon. 20 students are enrolled this year.
Normal school days will be 8:15 a-m to 3:30 p-m for kindergarten through 6th grade students and an 8:10 a-m start time for students in grades 7 – 12 and a 3:35 dismissal.
Breakfast and lunch programs are offered to students beginning the first day. Breakfast will be served from 7:55 a-m to 8:15 a-m. Free and reduced price meals are available for qualifying families.
An open house is scheduled for Wednesday, August 14th from 5 – 7 p-m. A book fair will be held at the same time with hot dogs and chips and beverages served from 5 – 8 p-m.
School district officials are hoping to break ground on an addition west of the 1936 portion of the building in mid-September. Hopes are to have the addition completed in March or April of 2014. The addition will include a 2,000 square foot library / media center; a 950 square foot science room and a science storage room. Three new classrooms will also be part of the addition with conversion of the old library and the old science room.
