(KLZA) A jury trial scheduled to begin Monday in Pawnee County District Court has been settled. 33 year old Michael D. Engstrom of Topeka is being held at the Diagnostic and Evaluation Center in Lincoln on multiple felony counts from multiple jurisdictions in Southeast Nebraska.
While the jury trial has been settled, further proceedings are expected. In Pawnee County Engstrom is charged with a Class I-C felony charge of Use of a Deadly Weapon to Commit a Felony with the weapon being a firearm; A Class I-D felony charge of Possession of a Deadly Weapon by A Prohibited Person – First Offense and a Class II felony charge of Robbery.
The charges are related to the February 13th, 2013 robbery of Casey’s General Store in Pawnee City.
In addition, Engstrom is charged with 19 felony counts, including five counts of attempted murder in Johnson County. These charges stem from a pursuit on February 13th in Johnson County in which two state troopers and three employees of the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office were allegedly shot at. In Johnson County Engstrom is scheduled for a jury trial beginning September 9th.
Engstrom and his wife Jamie Russell Engstrom are also suspects in a double shooting earlier in the day on February 13th in Topeka, Kansas that left one man dead and a woman wounded.
Julie Russell Engstrom has already been sentenced to prison on charges in connection with the Nebraska case in both Johnson and Pawnee counties.
