A tour of stream stabilization and riparian buffer projects and related projects along will be held on August 28^th from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.  The tour is FREE and open to the public.

Tour stops will be made at several streambank stabilization projects on the Delaware River some of which have been in place for several years as well as newly constructed ones.  Riparian forest buffers planted in conjunction with the streambank projects will also be viewed. Individual landowners will talk about how streambank stabilization and forestry techniques have protected their valuable farmland and reduced flood damage.  Foresters will discuss how others can use the forestry practices seen on the tour, and the benefits they provide to stabilize soils, protect bottomland fields and increase land values while providing an additional income source.  Other methods of stabilizing creek banks such as cedar revetments will also be demonstrated. 

A light meal will be provided at the end of the tour.  In order to know how much food to prepare, anyone who would like to participate should call 785-284-3422 by August 23^rd to register.

Location:  The tour will begin at the corner of 238^th and Barton Roads 1 mile north of the community of Arrington.  Arrington is located 10 miles east of Holton, KS on Hwy 116 -- WATCH FOR SIGNS.
