( KNZA )--The Hiawatha City Commission voted Monday evening to terminate the contract with City Administrator Lynne Ladner, effective immediately.
The action came on a 4-0 vote at the end of the meeting. Mayor Crosby Gernon was absent.
Commissioners said they couldn’t comment on the action because it was a personnel matter.
The commission held an executive session at the beginning of the meeting with City Attorney Don Cashman to discuss non-elected personnel--one of several such closed-door sessions held during the past few meetings.
Ladner had served as city administrator for 7 years.
In a prepared statement, Ladner said she has enjoyed her time and experiences in Hiawatha. She said it's been an honor and joy to serve the residents and governing body of the community.
As a public servant, Ladner said she knows first and foremost that she serves at the pleasure of the commission, and sometimes they feel it’s necessary to move in a new direction.
Ladner added she loves the community and looks forward to continuing to be a part of it.
