07/21/2013

(KTNC) - An Amish teen from Pawnee City was killed, and his sister injured, when a car crashed into their horse-drawn buggy.

The accident occurred around 9 o'clock Sunday morning on Highway 8-50 about 3 1/2 miles east of Pawnee City.

Pawnee County Sheriff Jayme Reed says 17-year-old Rueben Yoder and his sister, 20-year-old Fannie Yoder, were eastbound in a one-horse drawn buggy when the buggy was struck from behind by a 1992 Cadillac Deville, driven by 56-year-old Vivian Cockrell of Pawnee City.

Rueben Yoder was pronounced dead at the scene.  Fannie Yoder was taken to a Lincoln hospital with head injuries, and was listed in critical condition Sunday night.  Cockrell was treated and released from the hospital in Pawnee City.

The Nebraska State Patrol is assisting the Pawnee County Sheriff’s Department in investigating the accident.
