Holton Commission says "No" to Mill Levy Increase
07/19/2013

( KNZA )--Even though the city of Holton’s assessed valuation is down for the second year in a row, the Holton City Commission has decided against raising the property tax levy for the city’s 2014 budget

Holton City Manager Brett Bauer says the commission this week approved publishing a proposed budget that keeps the mill levy at 54.29 mills.

A slight increase in the property tax levy had been proposed to make up for a more than $260,000 decrease in the city's assessed valuation for 2014.

However, Bauer said the commission didn't want any increase in the property tax levy.  Instead, adjustments will be made to the budget to cover the gap.

The commission will consider adoption of the 2014 budget following a public hearing at their August 5th meeting.
