(KLZA) Richardson County Commissioners last week met with Village of Shubert representatives Gina Steele and Barb Howard to review the policies of sounding the emergency siren in Shubert. Emergency Management Director Jim Gerweck noted the siren is only sounded when tornadoes are spotted by storm spotters or detected by the National Weather Service and emergencies occurring at the Cooper Nuclear Station.
It was suggested by the representatives that sounding tests of the siren could be done on a more regular basis with proper advertising of when that would be.
They also discussed problems with noxious weeds in the Village. Commissioners noted the noxious weeds are within the jurisdiction of Shubert and the Village Board would need to take necessary action in notifying the landowners to eradicate the noxious weeds.
Commissioners also voted to give favorable comment to a pair of request from the Falls City Area Jaycees for designated liquor licenses for events in August and September at the Jaycee Arena south of Falls City.
The Board also voted to accept a grant award and special conditions for grant funding in the amount of $17,890 received from the Nebraska Crime Commission with a local match share of $7,155 for the 4-County Juvenile Services Program administered by People United for Families Incorporated.
