Nemaha Co. Commission Receives More 2014 Budget Requests
( KMZA )--The Nemaha County Commission this week received more 2014 funding requests.
Sheriff Rich Vernon says he’s will be turning in a request to the commission for one million, sixty-six thousand dollars for his department, which is a more than $66,000 increase from what was appropriated this year.
County Clerk Mary Kay Schultejans submitted 2014 budget requests for her office and elections. She is seeking the same amount as was appropriated this year, just over $179,000 for the clerk’s office and $102,500 for elections.
Representatives of the Rural Development Association of Northeast Kansas submitted a funding request for the same amount as they received this year, $30,000.
And Three Rivers Inc. submitted a budget request to the commission for $20,000---a $5,000 increase over what they were appropriated this year.
The commission will take the requests into consideration when drafting the 2014 budget.
In other business, Jerry Stallbaumer and Dan Stallbaumer with AHRS Construction of Bern and Sheriff Vernon came before the commission to discuss having a construction manager at risk involved in the construction of the proposed new county jail.
Commissioners were told having a company fill that position brings the contractor into the building process early in the design process and makes the entire process easier for the building owner.
The commission took no action.
