( KNZA )--A pavement marking project has begun on a 22-mile stretch of U.S. 75 Highway in Jackson and Shawnee Counties.
The Kansas Department of Transportation says the project, taking place from 62nd Street in Shawnee County to K-16 in Holton, includes the removal of the existing pavement markings followed by the application of new pavement markings with high nighttime reflectivity.
While the project is underway, northbound and southbound U.S. 75 will be reduced to one lane in a maximum 10-mile segment for three days at a time.
Drivers should expect major delays during peak travel times and should allow extra time for their daily commutes.
All side road access to U.S. 75 will remain open. Traffic will be directed through the project work zone via signage and cones. There will be a 55-mile per hour posted speed limit and a 12-foot lane width restriction throughout the project duration.
Work will take place around the clock, Monday through Friday, with some occasional Saturday work.
Twin Traffic of Kansas City is the primary contractor on the $560,000 project. The project is scheduled for completion in late September, weather permitting.
