(KNZA)--The Jackson County city of Holton will be filled with music for the 4th of July as the Jackson County Community Band makes it's debut performance.
It's believed that such a band has not existed in that area for more than five decades. That changed when nearly 35 musicians, including Jackson County based high school band directors, joined efforts to make the community band a reality.
With the band directors set to take turns directing and playing, other band members will include recent college graduates, older adults and current high school students.
During the July 4th performance, beginning at 7:00 Thursday evening at the Bandstand Gazebo on the Jackson County Courtyard in Holton, the band will perform ten selections, including patriotic classics.
The Holton Rotary Club will provide the band with a pre-show meal, and will then offer the brats, chips and a drink to the public for a free will offering, with the donated funds to be split with the band.
The Rotary will add the money to their ongoing fundraising effort to provide scholarships to local graduating seniors while the band is working to purchsase matching polo shirts featuring the band name and logo.
Everyone from across the local region is invited to the Holton performance on July 4th, and should bring a blanket or chair with them.
