Nemaha Co, KS Resurfacing Work Rescheduled
06/25/2013

On Thursday, June 27, weather permitting, a resurfacing project will begin on a total 16 miles of K-9, K-63, K-178 and K-236 in Nemaha County. The work had originally been planned to begin Wednesday, but is moved due to rainy weather.

The project work will take place on: 1) K-9 from the south K-63 junction to the north K-9/K-63 junction; 2) K-63 from the Pottawatomie/Nemaha County line to the south junction of K-9; 3) K-178 from the U.S. 36/K-178 junction to St. Benedict; and 4) K-236 from the junction of U.S. 36/K-236 to the south city limits of Oneida.

The project includes milling away of 1.5- to 2-inches of existing pavement followed by the application of a 1.5- to 2-inch new asphalt layer. The resurfacing project will smooth the road and fill surface defects that can shorten pavement life.

Work will take place during daylight hours, Monday through Friday, with some occasional Saturday work. The work will be coordinated so that all lanes will be opened to traffic by one-half before sunset.

Beginning on Thursday, June 27, northbound and southbound K-178 will be reduced to one lane for both directions along with intermittent closures of adjacent cross roads during the project work hours. Traffic will be directed through the project work zone via a pilot car operation during daylight hours only. Drivers should expect delays of up to 15 minutes maximum and are encouraged to use alternate routes, if possible. There will be a 10-foot lane width restriction during project work hours only throughout the project duration. Crews will complete work on K-178, followed by K-236, then K-63 and finally K-9.

Hall Brothers Inc. of Marysville is the primary contractor on this resurfacing project with a total contract cost of $1.812 million. Overall project work is scheduled to be completed by mid-August 2013, weather permitting.
