06/20/2013

(KNZA )--The new Hiawatha Best Western Plus Hotel is officially open and a ribbon cutting ceremony has been set.

Hiawatha City Administrator Lynne Ladner says banners were hung Thursday signifying the official opening of the new hotel on East Lodge Road, east of McDonald’s.

Ladner says a ribbon cutting ceremony will be held next Thursday morning at 11 with tours and lunch to follow. The public is invited to attend.

Last year, the Hiawatha City Commission approved the issuance of up to four million dollars in industrial revenue bonds for the project. The city also provided property for the project.

The hotel’s developer, Raju Sheth of MITRA Development in Wichita, provided $1.2 million in funding for the project.

The hotel consists of about 50 rooms, a heated indoor pool and hot tub, and exercise facility.

The hotel is expected to employ around 20.
