(KNZA)--The long awaited opening of a new Hiawatha hotel is now set, with the Best Western Plus, on East Lodge Road, expected to begin business Monday.
That word from Hiawatha Chamber Administrator Stacy Babb, who says the Chamber will hold a Ribbon Cutting ceremony at the hotel's location on June 24th.
According to a report delivered to the City Commission by the Hiawatha Foundation for Economic Development last month, the hotel is expected to employ around 20.
Last year, the city approved the issuance of up to four million dollars in industrial revenue bonds for the project. The city also provided the property for the project.
The hotel’s developer, Raju Sheth of MITRA Development in Wichita, is providing $1.2 million in funding for the project.
The hotel consists of about 50 rooms, a heated indoor pool and hot tub, and exercise facility. Rooms with kitchenettes will also be made available upon request.
