Two Arrested after Two-County Chase
06/07/2013

( KNZA )--Two people were arrested following a two-county chase early Thursday morning that began in downtown Topeka and ended near Mayetta in Jackson County.

The Topeka Capital Journal reports Topeka police officers attempted to stop a 2002 Chevy Suburban sport utility vehicle shortly after 12:30 at Southwest 6th and Harrison Streets.

The driver of the Suburban didn’t stop and fled from officers, initiating a chase that went west on Interstate-70 and then north on U.S. 75 highway.

The Suburban finally stopped at the junction of 150th Road and U.S  75, near the exit for the Prairie Band Casino, where both occupants were taken into custody.

The driver, 42-year-old John Robert Holt, whose address is unknown, was arrested on multiple counts—including auto theft, felony fleeing and eluding, driving the wrong way on a one-way roadway, reckless driving and failure to stop for emergency vehicles.

His passenger, 31-year-old Amanda Rose Keaton, of Lawrence, was arrested on a charge of possession of methamphetamine.

Both were booked into the Shawnee County Jail.

Police later learned the Suburban had been reported stolen out of Lawrence.

Topeka Police were assisted by deputies from the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Department and Jackson County Sheriff’s Department along with  Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation Tribal Police officers.
