Hearing Postponed in Brown Co Pursuit Case
05/23/2013

( KNZA )-The preliminary hearing for a 29-year-old Goff man accused of escaping from a Hiawatha police officer, stealing a vehicle, and then leading authorities on a high speed chase May 10th has been postponed.

The hearing for Jonathon Watkins was continued Wednesday to July 10th.
Watkins is charged in Brown County District Court with four felony counts—including aggravated escape from custody, obstructing official duty, felony theft, and fleeing or attempting to elude a law enforcement officer.

He remains in the Brown County Jail on $15,000 bond.

At the time of his escape, Watkins was being transported to the Brown County Jail on a Missouri warrant.  Due to a broken arm, the officer was unable to restrain him.

He’s believed to have suffered the injury during an April 23rd incident in northwestern Jackson County when he allegedly attacked two male relatives, striking them repeatedly with a shovel and skillet.

Watkins faces charges of aggravated battery and battery in Jackson County.  He was free on a $25,000 bond at the time of the Hiawatha incident.
