(KNZA)--A jury trial, related to the January shooting death of a Mayetta man, has been averted.
That follows a “no contest” plea entered by 29-year-year-old Aaron Lofton, of Topeka.
Jackson County Prosecutor Shawna Miller says the plea was for attempting to obstruct the apprehension or prosecution of a felon. Terms of the plea mean Lofton cannot seek probation.
Sentencing is set for the morning of June 13th.
The jury trial was scheduled to begin Wednesday.
Lofton is accused of driving a car, located in Iowa about a week after the fatal shooting of Kevin Stanley. In the trunk of the car were accused murderers Lloyd Wabaunsee and Desiree Shopteese.
With Lofton was a passenger, 36-year-old Denison resident Rachel Hudson. In March, she pled guilty to aiding a felon, and was sentenced to probation, and 60 days in jail.
Shopteese, who was accused of 2nd degree murder, pled guilty last month to a lesser charge of obstruction of apprehension, commonly known as aiding a felon.
She will be sentenced Friday.
Wabaunsee remains charged with 2nd degree murder, and is scheduled to return to court on June 7th.
Scheduled to appear that same day is Topeka resident Stephen Eastman, charged with aiding or abetting murder in the 2nd degree, obstructing apprehension or prosecution, and interfering with law enforcement official duty.
