Storms Cause Damage Throughout Region
05/19/2013

(KAIR) -- A wave of strong to severe thunderstorms affected the entire region Sunday evening, causing a damage from high winds.

In Atchison, several people reported large limbs blocking driving lanes in various parts of town.

The damage was a little more prevalent in the 11 hundred block of Parallel Street, where a tree fell onto a house (see photo).

The Atchison Fire Department also responded to a downed power line in that same block.

Atchison County Sheriff Jack Laurie said the roof of an older barn near the former community of Monrovia blew off as a result of the torrential rain and straight-line winds.

Westar Energy customers throughout the region experienced power outages as a result of the storms.
