It was a busy evening for southeast Nebraska area athletes in the afternoon session at the State Track Meet in Omaha.
In Class B, Auburn senior Tierra Williams is off to a good start. She won the long jump in what would have been a state record 20-feet, 1.25-inches, but it was ruled wind-aided, so there was no record. Williams qualified for the finals of the 100-meter dash, with the second fastest time of 12.29 seconds, and with the fastest time in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.43 seconds. Auburn also picked up points in the 3200-meter relay, where the team of Melissa Davison, Taylor Petersen, Emily Slama, and Catherine Davison placed 5th with a time of 9:57.06. Catherine Davison came back later in the evening to place 7th in the 3200 meter run, with a time ov 11:53.89. Maggie Rieschick of Auburn qualified for the finals of the 300-meter hurdles, winning her heat in a time of 46.19 seconds.
Falls City sophomore Zach Jordening cleared 6-feet in the Class B boys' high jump, placing him 11th overall.
Cord Huettner did not place in the shot put with his thrown of 47-11.75.
Mitchell Harling of Falls City did not place in the triple jump with a distance of 41-feet, 5-inches.
In Class D, the Falls City Sacred Heart boys picked up a point in the triple jump, where sophomore Austin Malone placed 8th, with a jump of 41-10.5. Freshman Henry Arnold was 14th, and Austin Smith of Pawnee City was 13th. Sacred Heart senior Clay Finck advanced to Satruday's final in the 100-meter dash, finishing 5th in his heat in 11.38 seconds. Junior Yianni Haralabidis finished 4th in his heat in 11.45 and did not qualify for the finals. Sacred Heart senior Lane Barnhill advanced to the finals of the 400-meter dash with his time of 52.61 seconds. Henry Arnold did not advance to the finals in the 400.
Scott Borcher of Pawnee City finished second in the Class D shot put with a throw of 51-7.25. Cody Benson of Sterling was 4th in the event, and the Jets' Chris Wenzl placed 7th.
Matt Mullins of Sacred Heart placed 6th in the pole vault, clearing 12-6. Colten Fisher of Pawnee City also cleared 12-6 and tied for 7th in the event.
In the Class D boys 110-meter hurdles, Sacred Heart senior Will Burenheide finished 5th in his heat in a time of 16.57, and did not advance to the finals.
Sterling finished 8th in the Class D boys 3200-meter relay. The team of Trey Trauernicht, Jesse Phillips, Michael Lucas, and Rhet Dirks had a time of 8:36.49.
Pawnee City freshman Alex Menninga placed 20th in the 3200 meter run, with a time of 11:37.42.
Pawnee City senior Austin Smith placed second in the high jump, clearing 6-4. Stetson Meyer of Diller-Odell was third. Sean Koperski of Johnson-Brock cleared 5-10 and did not place.
Chris Wenzl of Sterling advanced to the finals of the 300-meter hurdles, placing second in his heat in a time of 42.18 seconds.
Class D Girls results include Sterling just missing the top eight in the 3200-meter relay.
Rachel Parrish of Sacred Heart placed 7th in her heat in the 100-meter hurdles in 18.21 seconds, and did not advance to the finals. Shelby Hundley of Pawnee City placed 3rd in her heat in 16.7 seconds and also did not advance. Hundley placed 7th in her preliminary heat in the 100-meter dash in 13.61 seconds and did not advance to the finals in that event.
Maggie Goltz of Sacred Heart placed 15th in the long jump, with a distance of 15-3.25.
Wendy Sterkel of Sterling finished 20th in the 3200-meter run.
Sterling junior Jordan Lempka is a state champion in the discus, with a throw of 133-feet, 7-inches Friday. Jenna Habegger of Pawnee City did not place with a throw of 95-feet even.
Shelby Hundley of Pawnee City finished eighth in her heat in the 200-meter dash in 28.88 seconds and did not qualify for the finals.
