(KTNC) - Automatic budget cuts at the federal level are having an effect on local programs.
Southeast Nebraska Community Action Executive Director Vicky McNealy says the sequestration that went into effect March 1st has resulted in a five percent reduction in funding to many SENCA programs. (play audio :12)
That five percent cut represents a cut of approximately $80,000 from SENCA’s budget between March and September. McNealy says that will affect their Head Start program, Community Outreach offices, and Transit systems. (play audio :42)
McNealy says that economic impact has a ripple effect on communities throughout southeast Nebraska. (play audio :14)
McNealy says SENCA will try to meet the needs of low-income children and families by researching new grant opportunities and program funding.
SENCA is highlighting its programs during the month of May, which is Community Action Month.
