Hearing Postponed in Hiawatha Murder Case

( KNZA )-The preliminary hearing for a woman accused of playing a role in the death of a 4-year-old Brown County boy has been postponed to next month.
The hearing for 28-year-old Janice Summerford of Goodman, Missouri was continued Wednesday to June 14th.
Summerford is charged in Brown County District Court with aiding and abetting murder in the second degree, aiding and abetting felony child abuse and obstructing apprehension or prosecution.
County Attorney Kevin Hill says Summerford was the live-in girlfriend of Lee Davis IV, of Hiawatha, whose charged in the March beating death of his son.
Summerford was arrested last week after an investigation by the Brown County Sheriff’s Department revealed she was present at the time of the beating.
Davis pleaded no contest last week to an amended charge of second-degree murder and felony abuse of a child.  He’s to be sentenced May 31st.
Summerford remains in the Brown County Jail on one million dollars bond.
