Longer Days Coming for Nebraska Legislators
05/02/2013

(KLZA)  Nebraska lawmakers are expected to face more long days next week, so they can focus on the state budget.

Speaker Greg Adams announced Wednesday that lawmakers should plan to work until 6:30 p.m. every day, starting next week.

Adams says lawmakers still have work to do, with 20 days left in this year's session. Next week's debate is expected to focus on the state budget, which lawmakers have to approve before they adjourn for the year.

Adams says that on Tuesday, 17 of the Legislature's 49 members had checked out before 5 p.m. He says some lawmakers had valid reasons to leave early, but they also need to ensure that bills are thoroughly debated.

Says Adams, "We're here to get the people's work done."
