(KAIR) -- An act of heroism has earned the Fort Leavenworth Fire Department the Department of the Army Team Heroism Award.
The award was presented Tuesday for actions taken following the Fort Leavenworth building wall collapse resulting in serious injury to a contract employee.
The upper wall of a historic building renovation gave way and the material trapped an employee below less than four feet of rubble in August 2011.
The employee was evacuated to Kansas University Medical Center and has since recovered from his injuries.
