( KNZA )-A July jury trial has been set for a Highland man facing charges in connection with events surrounding a suspicious death.
51-year-old Morton Alfrey pleaded “ not guilty” Wednesday in Doniphan County District Court to felony charges of aggravated intimidation of a witness and obstruction of apprehension or prosecution along with a misdemeanor count of unlawfully hosting minors consuming alcoholic beverages.
Alfrey entered the plea after waiving his preliminary hearing.
A jury trial was set for July 8-9th.
The charges arise from a party that authorities say was held at Alfrey’s home the night of January 5th, which allegedly included several minors consuming alcohol. A Highland police officer responding to a call at the residence found the body of 30-year-old John Paul Jenkins.
No charges have been filed against anyone in the death of Jenkins, who was also a resident of Highland.
Alfrey is currently free on a $200,000 bond, which carries certain stipulations.
