(KNZA)--The non-springlike weather of the early spring season has delayed the opening of the Horton Farmer's Market; however, it's set to open next month, and will, due to the action of the Horton City Commission, eventually be equipped with water and electricity, for a cost of just over $900.
Powhattan resident Jake Johannes is a supporter of the market, and requested the installation of those services in the recent past.
The matter was again discussed during the latest session of the Horton City leaders.
Johannes addressed the Commissioners, saying the upgrades aren't necessarily intended for the regular users of the market, but are valuable to expanding opportunities at the location, near the soccer fields.
The Horton Farmer's Market is set to open for the season on the morning of Saturday, May 4th; and, with the Commission approving the installation of water and electricity, Horton city crews will make that happen. However, due to other underway projects, Rex West, Director of City Streets and Utilities, says the water hookup will have to wait. However, it's likely that his team will have the electricity installed in time for the opening.
