(KMZA)--Mark Haverkamp's life was spared Wednesday when a near 3-hour rescue effort to extricate him from a grain bin, at Nemaha County's Valley View Milling, proved successful; and, back on the job today, he thanks everyone, from first responders to individuals, who helped save his life.
Following his extrication, Haverkamp, Chairman for Valley View Milling, was flown from the scene for hospitalized treatment and released Wednesday night.
Rescue crews were called to the scene, west of Bern, or 8 miles north of Seneca, around 12:40 Wednesday afternoon. Haverkamp was freed by 3:20.
Among the agencies offering assistance at the scene were Seneca EMS, Bern and Seneca Fire Departments, the Nemaha County Sheriff's Office, the Kansas Highway Patrol and the Kansas Department of Transportation. Individuals, and members of neighboring businesses, also lent assistance.
