(KAIR)--A 37-year-old Topeka man remains behind bars in Jackson County, held on bond of 15-thousand-dollars, jailed in connection with his alleged role in last month's shooting death of a Mayetta man.
Jackson County Sheriff Tim Morse says Steven Eastman was arrested Friday, making him the fifth suspect in custody related to the January 10th shooting of Kevin Stanley.
Morse says investigators believe Eastman was present at Stanley's home at the time of the shooting, accompanying two others, Lloyd Wabaunsee and Desiree Shopteese, who are both charged with 2nd degree murder in connection with the case.
Eastman was allegedly the driver of the vehicle that brought them to, and took them from, the scene of the shooting. He is also alleged to have provided assistance to the pair after the crime occurred.
Eastman now faces charges of aiding or abetting murder in the second degree, obstructing apprehension or prosecution and interfering with law enforcement official duty.
Wabaunsee and Shopteese remain in custody in Iowa, where they were found following the extensive search launched following the shooting. Fighitng extradition to Kansas, a request for a Governor's warrant for their return was submitted to the office of the Kansas Governor by Jackson County Attorney Shawna Miller last week.
Seperate extradition hearings for Wabaunsee and Shopteese are set for later this month.
Meanwhile, two others are also held in connection with the crime, as Aaron Lofton, of Topeka, and Rachel Hudson, of Denison, are accused of providing assistance to Wabaunsee and Shopteese as they attempted to elude authorites.
Those two have waived their preliminary hearings, and entered pleas of “not guilty” to their formal charges. Both are expected to return to court at the start of next month.
