(KNZA)--Legal counsel is now appointed to the duo facing charges of second degree murder in connection with last month's shooting death of a Mayetta man.
Lloyd Wabaunsee and Desiree Shopteese, both 22-years-old, remain in Iowa, facing extradition to Kansas to answer to the crime.
However, Jackson County Attorney Shawna Miller says both are refusing extradition, with the Iowa court date on the matter set for Wabaunsee on the morning of February 18th at 10:00 while the date for Shopteese is set for the morning of February 25th at 10:00.
Miller says a request for Governor's warrants to see the pair extradited to Kansas will be submitted to the Governor's office by Friday at the latest.
Wabaunsee and Shopteese, following the January 10th shooting death of Kevin Stanley, in Mayetta, were located in Urbandale, Iowa, where authorities found them in the trunk of a car.
Inside the vehicle were driver Aaron Lofton, of Topeka, and passenger Rachel Hudson, of Denison.
Waiving extradition, those two were transported back to Kansas, where they were scheduled for a preliminary hearing, in a Jackson County courtroom, Thursday.
However, County Attorney Miller says they waived their preliminary hearings, and instead entered pleas of “not guilty" to two counts each of aiding a felon.
According to Miller, pre-trial status hearings are set for March First, with Hudson's set for 10:00 that morning while Lofton's is scheduled for that afternoon at 1:00.
