( KNZA )-The Brown County Commission has approved a new position within the sheriff’s department.
Following a closed-door session Monday, the commission voted to move current full-time deputy Rich Lehmkuhl to a part-time contractual position effective February 15th
Lehmkuhl will be help with emergency management and other duties as needed by the sheriff.
He will be paid $1,000 a month. Lehmkuhl will be allowed to keep his county cell phone. He will no longer have use of a county vehicle on a regular basis, but will be allowed to use the vehicle as approved by the sheriff.
In other business, commissioners received a letter from Citizen’s State Bank and Trust of Hiawatha informing them the county has been awarded a 47-hundred grant through the Ruth and Roger Wolfe Charitable Trust.
The grant is for the replacement of the four concrete benches on the north and south sides of the Courthouse, which was done last year.
The county will provide 47-hundred dollars in matching funds.
A total of more than 71-thousand dollars in grant funds were awarded through the Wolfe Charitable Trust.
