( KNZA )--An elderly Basehor man was killed in a two-vehicle accident Wednesday afternoon on U.S. 24 Highway in Leavenworth County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol says 86-year-old Thomas Holland was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident about 3 miles north of the Douglas/Leavenworth County line.
The Patrol says Holland was traveling west when his pickup went left of center and struck an eastbound van driven by 19-year-old Caitlyn Coon, also of Basehor. Holland's pickup overturned onto the driver's side in the west ditch.
Coon was transported to the K-U Medical Center in Kansas City with disabling injuries.
The Patrol says Holland wasn’t wearing a seat belt, but Coon was.
The accident was reported around 4:15 Wednesday afternoon.
