Congressman Smith Supports No Budget No Pay Bill

(KLZA) The House of Representatives Wednesday voted 285-144 to advance a bill to permit the government to borrow enough money to avoid a first default for at least four months, defusing a crisis looming next month and setting the stage for a springtime debate over taxes, spending and the deficit. The House passed the measure by a 285-144 vote, a bipartisan showing on an initiative brought by majority Republicans. The GOP is backing away from its previous demand that any increase in the government's borrowing cap be paired with an equivalent level of spending cuts. Nebraska Third District Congressman Adrian Smith made this statement in the House on Wednesday. The Bill H.R. 325 is knows as the No Budget, No Pay act. ( play audio 1:07 ) Under the bill, the debt ceiling would be extended by three months, in exchange for mandatory escrow on Congressional salaries if each house of Congress fails to produce a 2014 budget by April 15th.
