( KNZA )-A Fairview man convicted of holding his wife captive against her will has been sentenced to 5 ½ years in prison.
Corey Gorman was handed the sentence last week in Brown County District Court on charges of kidnapping and criminal threat. Gorman was given credit for 465 days served.
He pleaded no contest to the charges earlier this month. As part of a plea agreement, charges of aggravated battery and aggravated assault were dismissed.
Gorman had originally pleaded not guilty to the charges last October. A jury trial had been set for today ( Tuesday ).
Authorities say Gorman threatened his wife with a knife after transporting her from Riley County to Brown County in October 2011 with the intent to hold her against her will.
He was arrested by the Brown County Sheriff’s Department on October 10th, 2011 following a tip from a concerned local resident.
The case was delayed after Gorman was sent to the Larned State Hospital later that month for a competency evaluation. He was later found competent to stand trial.
