(KNZA)--Training with local emergency responders, including the Brown County Sheriff's Office, the Horton Police Department and Kickapoo Tribal Police, among others, Brown County's USD 430 puts updated plans in place for all aspects of emergency situations, including school shootings.
That issue was the near 45 minute focus during Monday night's meeting of the South Brown County Schools' Board of Education.
Superintendent Doctor Steve Davies took the board members, step by step, through the process formulated so far, including maps detailing specific areas of safety.
The plans outline the specific steps to be used at each district school in the case of a hostage situation, a shooter, a bomb threat, and a stranger sighting.
Heavy discussion from board members came during Davies' presentation, with talk focused on a variety of other possibilities, including armed guards, guns locked in a designated area, and similar options.
All, as discussion showed, are costly, and not 100 percent effective, with Davies saying the current plans provide a strong strategy towards keeping students safe should such a crisis arrive.
