( KAIR) -- An area state lawmaker is concerned about Governor Sam Brownback's budget proposals-which include a further reduction in income tax rates and elimination of a popular income tax deduction.
Members of the House Budget Appropriations Committee Wednesday got a closer examination of his proposals.
State Representative Jerry Henry is the ranking member of the committee.
The Cummings Democrat says among the governor's proposals is an extension of the six-tenths of a percent state sales tax, which is set to expire in July.
In addition, he says Brownback is proposing elimination of the home mortgage interest deduction on income taxes, which he says will generate 160 million dollars in additional revenue.
Henry says Brownback is proposing to divert funding normally set aside for highway projects to school transportation programs during the two years beginning in July,,... (play audio )

Brownback also wants to merge the Kansas Turnpike Authority with the state Department of Transportation, which he says would save 30 million dollars over the next two years.
