(KAIR) -- There’s not as many citizens in Atchison County filing for an appeal on the newly implemented solid waste fee as was expected.
That’s according to Solid Waste Project Manager Chase Brunick.

The fee was added to property tax statements in part to help fund many new one-time expenses the county will undertake in 2013.
After the first round of statements were sent out, a large public outcry from small business owners arose at several subsequent County Commissioner meetings.
The initial fee was set at 62 dollars per residence and 62 dollars per 26 cubic yards of waste generated for non-residences.
After the protests, Commissioners voted to cut the rate for non-residences in half and new statements were mailed.
The first half of property tax payments were due December 20th.
