(KNZA)--Power is restored for all but a handful of Westar Energy customers, with full restoration happening sooner than had been anticipated.
Late yesterday, with thousands remaining without power, spokeswoman Erin LaRow said it could take until noon today to restore all customers in Atchison and Leavenworth Counties. However, only several customers remain listed as being without power.
At the peak of the winter storm that moved through late Wednesday night and Thursday morning, 12 thousand Westar Customers, in counties across the local region, were left in the dark.
Due to the extensive outage, Westar brought in repair crews from southeast Kansas and the Wichita area.
Repairs were made difficult due to the extreme winds that moved in with the storm.
