(KNZA)--The Kansas Department of Transportation went to work early preparing for the winter storm, readying crews, and equipment, for the battle against the blizzard like conditions.

That extensive plowing will be made necessary by the expected strong northeast winds causing blizzard like conditions, including occasional white outs.
In the local Kansas area, mixed precipitation, including sleet and drizzle, are expected through the early evening, changing over to heavy snow by 9:00 tonight.
The heaviest snowfall is expected between 11:00 tonight and 5:00 tomorrow morning.
