Hiawatha Teachers & Board Remain at Impasse on Contract

( KNZA )-The Hiawatha Teachers Association and Hiawatha Board of Education remain at an impasse in contract negotiations for the 2012-2013 school year.

Impasse papers were signed and sent to Office of Labor Relations in late June after the two sides couldn’t reach an agreement.

A federal mediator met with representatives of the two groups in July, however no agreement was reached.

The fact-finder’s ruling is non-binding, and neither side is bound by statute to adhere to the conditions.

Hargrove says an agreement can be reached at any time.  Until negotiations can be settled, the teachers will continue to work under the 2011-2012 contract.

It’s the second year in a row that an impasse has been declared in contract negotiations.  Last year’s contract impasse was resolved during the mediation process.
