( KNZA )--Rates are going up at the Brown County transfer station, effective January 1st.
The county commission today ( Monday ) approved a $2.70 a ton increase in rates for both in-county and out-of-county trash.
The rate for in-county trash will increase from $41.30 a ton to $44 a ton and out-of-county trash from $45.50 a ton to $48.20 a ton.
Commissioner Warren Ploeger proposed the rate increase due to a decrease in the volume of trash going through the transfer station. Ploeger said the volume has decreased from 14,176 tons last year to 12,512 tons this year.
He noted the transfer station is funded through user fees and not subsidized by tax dollars.
The rate for construction and demolition material disposed of at the county landfill will remain the same.
The last rate increase was in 2011.
