When discussion of league membership occurs, it's usually in relation to athletic competitions between school districts.
However, a different type of competition also falls under league guidelines, with area students beginning to prepare for the start of the forensics season next semester.
That happens in USD 430 as the South Brown County schools await placement in a league, with the matter now in the hands of the Kansas State High School Activities Association.
Despite the current lack of league membership, the district moves forward with a new hire to lead the forensics team, with Horton resident Tim Burns approved for that role by the Board of Education Monday(Play Audio)
Burns' role as coach is to prepare the forensics team members, working with a variety of public speaking based performances, for weekend tournaments with other area high schools(Play Audio)
Burns is a recent graduate of Coffeyville Community College, where he received his Associate of Arts Degree.
