( KNZA )-A Lancaster man convicted in the brutal beating of a Horton woman in May has been sentenced to more than 7 1/2 years in prison.
Brown County District Judge John Weingart sentenced Matthew Hermreck Friday to 61 months in prison on a charge of attempted second-degree murder and 31 months in prison on a charge of aggravated burglary. Weingart then ordered the sentences to be served consecutively.
Weingart denied a motion filed by Hermreck’s court-appointed attorney, Andy Delaney, for a departure from the sentencing guidelines.
Prior to the sentence being handed down, Hermreck turned around and told the victim that he was sorry.
Hermreck pleaded no contest to the amended charges in October.
He had originally been charged with attempted first-degree murder. A charge of aggravated endangerment of a child was dismissed as part of the plea agreement.
The victim spent several weeks at K-U Medical Center in Kansas City following the attack the night of May 2nd at her residence. The victim’s three-year-old daughter also suffered injuries during the incident and was treated at the Horton Community Hospital.
