(KNZA)--Guilty on all charges.
That's the verdict handed down Wednesday for 36-year-old Mayetta resident Brian Vaught, convicted of aggravated battery, aggravated assault, two counts of domestic battery, three counts of obstruction and disorderly conduct. The conviction arises from crimes committed between July 4th and July 21st of this year.
The trial for Vaught began Monday.
Jackson County Attorney Shawna Miller says the victim, whose identification is withheld for her safety, provided testimony showing Vaught used classic domestic abuser tactics against the woman.
The 28-year-old victim testified that Vaught, on July 4th, head butted her in the face, shattering her nose and cheekbone. She also testified that on July 21st, he held her at gunpoint, threatening to kill her.
The victim's young daughter was present at some points during the violence.
Vaught was arrested July 21st when he and the victim went to the Holton Wal-Mart Store. It was there the victim told her story to store staff, who then called police.
When the authorities arrived, Vaught resisted arrest, and attempted to obstruct police as they attempted to place him into custody.
Miller, who calls the victim incredibly brave for coming forward, also commends local law enforcement and victim advocate agencies for their work on the case.
Sentencing for Vaught is scheduled for January 11th. He's expected to receive a sentence of 41 months in prison on the most serious charge. He could spend additional time behind bars on the other charges depending on the decision of the Court.
