( KNZA )--The Kansas Highway Patrol worked two separate fatal crashes over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, with one of them being alcohol-related. There were no fatalities reported last year during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. .
The Patrol Monday released its Thanksgiving holiday weekend activity for the period running from 6:00 o’clock Wednesday evening through 11:59 Sunday night.
The Patrol made 24 DUI arrests during the reporting period. In addition, 1,568 speeding citations were issued, up from 14-hundred last year. Also the patrol issued a total of 400 seatbelt and child restraint citations, which is up from last year.
During the holiday weekend, the Patrol and other local agencies participated in the Special Traffic Enforcement Program. The Kansas Department of Transportation provided a grant for the additional enforcement.
