(KNZA)--As a reconstruction project continues on a 5-mile section of U.S. Highway 75, from Sabetha to the Kansas/Nebraska state line in Brown and Nemaha Counties, crews are set to begin another step in the process.
On Halloween, Wednesday October 31st, northbound and southbound U.S. 75 will be shifted from over the existing Rock Creek Bridge to a paved shoofly detour on the east side of the existing bridge. That will be done so crews can begin demolition work on the existing bridge, a 28-foot-wide, 119-foot-long reinforced concrete deck girder haunched structure. It will be replaced with a 44-foot-wide, 140-foot-long reinforced concrete haunch slab span bridge.
The entire project is set for completion in October 2013.
Koss Construction, of Topeka, is the primary contractor on the project, costing $7.665 million,
It's funded by T-Works, the transportation program approved by the 2010 Legislature.
