Victim in Deadly Pottawatomie Co Hit & Run Identified

( KMZA )-- The Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s office continues to look for the driver of a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run accident early Sunday morning on U.S. 24 Highway that claimed the life of a Manhattan man

Pottawatomie County Sheriff Greg Riat identified the victim Monday as 21-year-old Konley Harding.

Riat says the sheriff’s office received a 911 call shortly before 12:10 Sunday morning of a person lying in the eastbound lane of Highway 24 just east of Excel Road about two miles east of Manhattan. First responders arriving on scene found that the man now identified as Harding had been struck by a vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Riat says a witness reported that a light-colored, medium-sized sport utility vehicle was believed to have struck the victim. The witness believed the SUV continued eastbound after striking Harding.

Because Harding was wearing dark-colored clothing and was reported to be lying in the roadway before being struck, investigators believe the driver of the vehicle may have known they struck an object but may not have realized that object was a person.

The Sheriff's Office is asking for this person to come forward, or anyone with information on this incident to contact the Pottawatomie County Sheriff's Office at 785-457-3353, or their local law enforcement agency.
