( KMZA )-By late Wednesday evening, the new US-77 Big Blue River Bridge will OPEN to unrestricted traffic in Marshall County, weather permitting.
In addition, the Kansas Department of Transportation says the reconstructed K-9 and K-77 intersection will reopen to unrestricted traffic.
The new bridge provides added safety benefits as the 40-foot wide structure, with two 12-foot lanes and 8-foot shoulders, will provide more room for today’s wider vehicles. Also, the addition of a deceleration lane for northbound drivers turning east onto K-9 and an acceleration lane for eastbound drivers on K-9 turning north onto U.S. 77 will provide added safety for turning movements from the highway.
Demolition of the original bridge still needs to be completed along with pavement striping, clean up and finishing work on the entire project. Thus, there will still be some lane closures as crews complete this project work. The entire project is scheduled to be completed by late December.
