(KAIR)--An Atchison man, convicted in 2010 for the rape of a Benedictine College student, will remain behind bars.
That follows a circuit court ruling last week, following the appeal of Michael Blanks.
He was found guilty in November of 2010 for raping the then 21-year-old woman who, after the attack in rural Atchison County, escaped and hid in a farmhouse until she could seek help.
She and Blanks had met at an Atchison bar where she had become highly intoxicated prior to leaving with him. It was the level of her intoxication that became the crux of the case.
In December 2010 Blanks was sentenced to nearly 20-years behind bars, with that sentence upheld by the Circuit Court’s decision.
He was 25-years-old at the time the crime was committed.
