(KAIR)--A competency evaluation is granted for a 19-year-old Atchison man accused of attacking an Atchison County correction officer.
The motion, filed by the defense counsel for Casey Crawford, accused of kicking the guard in the groin last month after he was arrested on a warrant for failure to appear, was granted this week in Atchison County District Court. .
The mental health screening will be conducted locally, with legal procedures to follow, based on the outcome of the findings.
Crawford remains held in the Atchison County Jail on a total bond of 27-thousand-5-hundred dollars.
