(KNZA)--The Kansas State Department of Education has named a Leavenworth elementary teacher as the Regional Elementary Teacher of the Year.
The Leavenworth Times reports that Laura Moyers, who enters her third year in the Leavenworth School District, is a music teacher at Anthony Elementary School.
The honor also makes her one of eight statewide finalists for the opportunity to be selected as the 2013 Kansas Teacher of the Year.
Moyers learned of her selection during the KSDE's awards program held in Topeka.
Moyers is credited with helping to secure more that 16-thousand-dollars for her school's music program by winning grants and contests.
