( KNZA )--A public health warning continues for two area lakes due to the presence of high levels of toxic blue-green algae.
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment announced Friday that the Hiawatha City Lake and Centralia Lake remain under “ warning” status.
A public health warning indicates that water conditions are unsafe and direct water contact is prohibited.
Also the Brown County State Fishing Lake remains under an “ advisory” status.
Water activities like boating and fishing may be safe. However, direct contact with the water is strongly discouraged for people, pets and livestock.
KDHE will continue to monitor the lakes and will provide updates as conditions warrant.
