( KNZA )--Ambulance service rates are going up in Sabetha.
The city commission this week approved an ordinance presented by Sabetha EMS Director Ed Steinlage which contains different rates for different levels of certification and brings the mileage rate up to cities of comparable size.
The new rates range from $450 per basic life support non-emergency run to $750 per advance life support emergency run. Also there will be an additional $11 per mile charge for ambulance runs outside the city limits.
Steinlage presented the 2011 annual report. He said the Sabetha EMS had 314 runs last year, which is comparable to previous years. Steinlage said the EMS currently has 26 members, with 20 of them active.
He said the EMS finds itself short staffed during the day Monday and Friday, and urged commissioners to write a letter to employers of EMT’s asking them be allowed to take calls during the day, whether it’s just one day a week or more.
The commission voted to send the letters.
Steinlage also informed commissioner’s that the Sabetha EMS has received a grant that will allow them to receive many new pagers. Nemaha County will be providing matching funds.
In other business, the commission approved an ordinance presented by Police Chief Robert Wahwasuck adjusting the time period allowed to abate trash code violations and grass or weed code violations.
Previously, property owners had 10 days from the time of a notice to abate. Now they will have only 48 hours.
